  • The Korean Language Institute, which opened for the fourth time in Korea in March 1989, has already celebrated its 34th anniversary. A lot of things that have happened in the past time fly through my head like a beacon

    We are well aware that the founder's special insight told us in the 1950s that "Korean language will become the global language." In the 1950s was right after the war, South Korea ranked second among 150 countries in poverty. Nevertheless, declaring the 'globalization of the Korean language' was an incredible prophecy in hindsight.

    Over the past time, our Korean Language Institute has shown an outstanding ability in terms of teaching materials development, continuously developing numerous teaching materials, including main and auxiliary textbooks, writing textbooks, and listening textbooks. In particular, the results of winning a textbook development project hosted by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and developing 14 textbooks at various levels, from beginner to advanced, are remarkable.

    The development of Nepalese local language textbooks also remains a great achievement. In addition, it was truly a great achievement that Beijing University in China published and used the textbook developed by the Korean Language Institute teachers locally, and that Dalian Publishing Company in China published our textbook locally and distributed it to various universities for a long time.

    It is a great pride to have achieved excellent educational results as a government-invited scholarship (GKS) entrusted educational institution and to be selected as a topic implementation institution and firmly established in the Chungcheong region. From this November, IBT topics will also be implemented at Sunmoon University.

    And my biggest pride are the teachers who love and care for their students and teach Korean language and culture with sincerity, and the office teachers who actively take care of all tasks, from preparing students' documents and completing visa procedures to living in Korea.

    Although there have been difficulties such as COVID-19, I will do my best to achieve a renaissance of the Korean Language Institute again during my tenure. This is something that cannot be done alone, so I hope that all the faculty and staff will work together and help each other to create a better Korean language education center.
